Vice President, PM condole death of Siddhartha Shankar Ray

The Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh today condoled the death of former West Bengal Chief Minister Siddhartha Shankar Ray. In his message Vice president said that Ray was a legal luminary, an eminent public figure, a distinguished diplomat. In his condolence message, Dr. Singh described Ray as a leader who contributed immensely to the processes of nation-building. Siddharth Shankar Ray died in Kolkata last evening after prolonged illness. He was 90.Punjab Government had declared two days state mourning tomorrow and the day after as a mark of respect to Siddhartha Shankar Ray, Former Governor of Punjab. The National Flag is Flying at half -mast over all Public Buildings today and no official entertainment programmes was held in the state. Haryana Chief Minister Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed his deep sorrow at the sad demise of Siddhartha Shankar Ray. In his condolence message , Mr Hooda said that Siddhartha Shankar Ray will be long remembered for his pro-poor and pro-farmer policies.
