Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari held bilateral meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro this morning

Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has reached the Margarita Island, Venezuela to attend the 17th NAM Summit. He was received by Aristobulo Isturiz, Executive Vice President of Venezuela and accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Airport.<br/><br/>Later Mr. Ansari had a bilateral meeting with the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro. <br/><br/>The 17th Non Aligned Summit began on 13th and will culminate on 18th with Venezuela taking over the organisation's rotating Presidency from Iran for the next three years. Mr. Ansari will address the plenary session of the Summit tonight.<br/><br/>Earlier, speaking in the minister level meeting of the Summit, Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar said peace is the only option. Mr. Akbar said meaning of war has changed and now it is manifested as terrorism. It aims to destroy both state and society by pouring acid into social harmony. He said terrorism is the biggest enemy of human rights. The subjugation of terrorists is, therefore, protection of human rights.<br/><br/>Issues of contemporary relevance and concern such as terrorism, UN reform, the situation in West Asia, threats to peace & security, climate change, economic governance, south-south cooperation, refugees and migrants, and nuclear disarmament are main issues being discussed at the Summit.

Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari held a bilateral meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in the Margarita Island this morning. Mr Ansari is in Venezuela to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit. Upon his arrival in the island, the Vice President was received at the airport by Executive Vice President of Venezuela Aristobulo Isturiz and accorded a ceremonial welcome.<br/><br/>The 17th edition of NAM Summit began on Tuesday and will culminate tomorrow with Venezuela taking over the organisation's rotating Presidency from Iran for the next three years. AIR correspondent, covering the summit, reports that terrorism, UN reforms, climate change, economic governance and nuclear disarmament are the main issues being discussed at the summit.
