Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu returned home this morning after concluding his two-day visit to Belgium. Mr Naidu led the Indian delegation at the 12th Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit held on Thursday & Friday in the Belgian capital Brussels. <br />'' <br />'' The Summit brought together Heads of state or government of 30 European and 21 Asian countries besides top representatives of the European Union and Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). <br />'' <br />'' The biennial event with the theme "Global Partners for Global Challenges", is the highest platform for dialogue and cooperation between Asia and Europe in the areas of trade, investment, security and tourism. <br />'' <br />'' Vice President spoke at the 1st Plenary Session of the Summit in which he called for the global response to the global challenges of terrorism, economic offences and climate change. Mr Naidu also had bilateral meetings with the Prime Ministers of Portugal, Spain & Greece besides calling on King of Belgium King Philippe.<br />'' <br />'' Vice President also addressed the Indian Diaspora at Antwerp in Brussels and offered floral tribute at a sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi in the Provincial House in the Governorate of Antwerp. The Vice President also held meetings with prominent NRIs, CEOs of various companies, business enterprises and establishments besides Entrepreneurs at Brussels. <br />'' <br />'' After taking office in August last year, ASEM was the first multilateral summit that M. Venkaiah Naidu attended in Brussels. He successfully highlighted India's concerns and perspective at the summit.<br />'' During his meetings with the King of Belgians and with the Prime Ministers of Portugal, Greece and Spain, Vice President had the wide-ranging discussion on the bilateral matters. Shri Naidu's interaction with Indian Diaspora in Antwerp district was described as invigorating by the people living in Brussels. <br />
