Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu delivers keynote address Sagar conference in Goa

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that space research and science must strive to eradicate poverty, improve crop yield and help mitigate the impact of extreme weather events. <br />''<b><br />''</b><br />''Delivering the keynote address at the Sagar Discourse 2 conference in Goa, Mr Naidu said that the Indian Ocean region has abundant resources, the brightest minds and high-growth global economies, but faces challenges, such as terrorism and ecological vulnerability. <br />''<b><br />''</b><br />''He stressed that scientific prowess must be capitalized to address the challenges and for the betterment of humanity. He said diplomatic engagements and scientific cooperation will help address conflicts and the basic purpose of science is to improve the lives of people. Mr Naidu appreciated the Indian Space Research Organisation's contribution in this regard.<br />''<b><br />''</b><br />''The three-day Sagar Discourse 2 conference aims to highlight technological, economic and developmental opportunities with opening up of space and how efficiently the potential can be explored. Scientists and researchers from around 15 countries are participating in the conference.<br />''<br />
