Vice President leaves for home after concluding two-nation visit

Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has left for home after concluding his two-nation visit to West Africa. Mr Ansari had visited Nigeria and Mali and held wide-ranging discussions with the leadership of both the countries. <br/><br/>Our correspondent, covering the visit, reports that <br/>Mr Ansari's visit was part of the government's outreach to all regions of Africa. He held talks with the leadership of both the nations and discussed a number of issues including terrorism. Addressing the National Defence College in Nigeria and the National Assembly in Mali, <br/><br/>Mr Ansari pitched for adopting a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism to fight the menace. He said in Abuja that Nigeria and other members of Organisation of Islamic Co-operation need to speak up against Pakistan sponsored terrorism. <br/><br/>India signed an agreement on Standards with both Nigeria and Mali. With Mali, an agreement on cultural exchange was also inked. Mr Ansari also interacted with the Indian community during his stay. <br/><br/>The aim of the visit was to further bolster the bilateral ties with the two countries and explore new avenues of collaboration. It can be said that the government's very focused approach to Africa as mentioned by Mr Ansari is bearing fruit.
