Vice President Hamid Ansari reaches Morocco

Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari reached Rabat last night on the first leg of his two nation visit to Morocco and Tunisia.<br/><br/>Mr Ansari was received at the airport by Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane. Talking to mediapersons onboard the special flight, Mr Ansari said, during the visit, India will be looking to provide a fresh impetus to its relations with the two North African countries and explore new avenues of co-operation.<br/><br/>Asked whether there is a sudden push towards strengthening ties with Africa, especially with the region's growing relations with China, the Vice President said, India is not competing with anyone. He said, Africa has been New Delhi's focus since independence.<br/><br/> The Vice President also condemned the recent attacks on African nationals in India saying that attacks, whether on Indians or foreigners, are equally unfortunate. <br/><br/>Mr Ansari said, the government's stand on the issue has been clear from the beginning, and it is its responsibility to provide safety and security to every foreign national.<br/><br/>The Vice President will meet King Mohammed VI and Prime Minister Benkirane today. Several MoUs are likely to be signed after the delegation level talks between Mr Ansari and the Moroccan Prime Minister.<br/><br/>The Vice President will also launch the India-Morocco Chamber of Commerce. He will deliver a lecture at the Mohammad V University tomorrow before leaving for Marrakech. Mr Ansari will visit Tunisia on Thursday.
