India has called for adopting a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. <br/><br/>Delivering an address at the National Defence College in Nigerian capital Abuja this afternoon, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari said, terrorism today has a global reach and it can only be defeated by organised international action. He said, there is a need to restructure the international legal framework to counter the menace.<br/><br/>Mr Ansari also said, the use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy is to be unequivocally condemned. He said, societies that stand for peace should increase their cooperation and strengthen efforts to prevent supply of arms to terrorists, disrupt terrorist movements, and curb and criminalize terror financing. He said, countries must help each other by sharing intelligence, securing cyber space, and minimizing the use of internet and social media for terrorist activities. <br/><br/>Mr Ansari said, aberrations must be resolved in a transparent and just fashion as public perceptions are important.<br/><br/>The Vice President also said, considering the diverse security challenges, stronger India-Nigeria relations would not only be mutually beneficial, but would also add to the regional and global security.<br/><br/>Mr Ansari is reaching Lagos tonight. Lagos is the largest city and the former capital of Nigeria. He will address the Lagos University tomorrow before leaving for Mali.<br/><br/>Mr Ansari's Mali visit will be the first high-level visit to the country by an Indian leader. The Vice President will return home on Saturday.
