Veteran journalist Jyotirmoy Dey cremated today

Veteran investigative journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, who was shot dead by unknown assailants on Saturday, was cremated today at suburban Ghatkopar in Mumbai. Maharashtra PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and a large number of media persons had turned up to pay their last respects to the senior journalist. Dey, who worked as Editor (Special Investigation) in Mid-Day, was shot dead by four unidentified persons in suburban Powai last afternoon. He had extensively covered crime and underworld over two decades. Bhujbal said, special team of the Crime Branch has already begun a probe into the murder. They are also looking into the involvement of persons associated with oil mafia and underworld. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has called for an emergency meeting which will be attended bythe Home Minister R R Patil and Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik. Demanding for a more stringent law, media persons have sought that attack on a journalist be made a non-bailable offence.
