Veteran Congress leader, former Union Minister Vasant Sathe passes away

Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Vasant Sathe died in Gurgaon on Friday night. He was 86. Sathe complained of chest pain late in the evening and was rushed to a private hospital where Doctors declared him dead. A lawyer by training, Sathe was Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting in Indira Gandhi's cabinet. Sathe made his debut in the Lok Sabha from Akola, Maharashtra, in 1972 and later represented Wardha constituency from 1980 to 1991. Sathe authored seven books with latest being 'Memoirs of a Rationalist' which was released in 2006. As per his wishes, Sathe's body will be donated to All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi have condoled his death.
