Legendary actor Rajesh Khanna passed away today at his Mumbai residence after prolonged illness. He was 69. Rajesh Khanna was discharged from the hospital yesterday but due to extreme weakness and low blood pressure the actor was on ventilator since last night. The actor’s condition had been deteriorating since April when he stopped eating and had complained of weakness. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital twice in the past month.
The actor Rajesh Khanna, the superstar of Hindi Cinema, made his debut in 1966 with ‘Aakhri Khat’ and rose to prominence with his performances in films like Raaz, Baharon Ke Sapne, Ittefaq, Aradhana and Anand. He appeared in 163 feature films of which 128 as the lead. He won three Filmfare Best Actor Awards and was nominated for the same fourteen times.
Rajesh Khanna was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
Rajesh Khanna was Member of Parliament for New Delhi constituency from 1991-1996. He has been a Congress activist since 1990 and has campaigned for Congress party since 1984 at the insistence of Rajiv Gandhi.
