Wrestler-turned-actor and Former Rajya Sabha member Dara Singh has passed away. He was 84. Dara Singh who was battling for life since the last five days, passed away early this morning. Singh was taken home from hospital by family members last night so that he could be with them in the last moments of his life. Singh was brought to the hospital on Saturday after he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
He is survived by six children. The Commonwealth wrestling champion entered the film industry in the fifties and is known for his roles in “King Kong” and “Faulad”. He was last seen in “Jab We Met” in 2007. The veteran actor also played the character of Hanuman in the epic television series 'Ramayan'.
Condoling the death of actor Dara Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni today said he will always have a special place in the hearts of people for his contribution to the Indian film industry.
The Minister also recalled Singh's distinguished record as member of the Rajya Sabha.
In Punjab ,a shock wave has gripped the Dharmuchak in Amritsar district native village of Wrestler turned Film star Dara Singh after his sad demise today. The people offered prayers for the departed soul in the village Gurdwara today and remembered his childhood days. Mr Darbara Singh nephew of Darra Singh and other while expressing shock over his demise said that their village is known for him.
Haryana Chief Minister Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda has also expressed deep sorrow over the passing away of great wrestler and noted film actor, director and producer, Mr Dara Singh.
In a condolence message issued at chandigarh today, the Chief Minister said that Mr Dara Singh provided new dimensions to wrestling.
