Hudhud has developed into a very severe cyclone which will lead to heavy rainfall during next 48 hours in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
Director General of Indian Meteorological Department, L S Rathore on Saturday said that it has moved west-northwestwards during past six hours and lay centred about 240 km southeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 330 km south-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha.
He said, under the influence of the cyclone, heavy rainfall will occur over Godavari,Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram and Srikakulam districts of north Andhra Pradesh and Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Phulbani districts of south Odisha during this period.
Mr. Rathore said, wind speed will increase to 170-180 kilometer per hour gusting to 195 kilometer per hour around the time of landfall.
He said the cyclone is reaching to the coast with the speed of 10 kilometers per hour and the sea condition along and off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts will be very rough during next 12 hours.
Meanwhile, National Crisis Management Committee, NCMC on Saturday reviewed the preparedness for relief and rescue operations in the wake of the cyclonic storm Hudhud.
NCMC Chairman and Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth took stock of the relief and rescue measures put in place in the states after holding discussion with the state Chief Secretaries.
An official release issued in New Delhi said, the Central agencies are fully geared up to provide necessary assistance to the States in case of any eventualities arising out of the landfall of the cyclone.
39 teams of National Disaster Response Force comprising of more than 1600 rescuers along with 199 inflatable rubber boats and other life saving equipments are deployed in various parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to meet any challenges.
Indian Air Force helicopters are also on standby to meet any emergent situation.
