Venus Williams crashes out in opening round of Australian Open

In the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season, eighth seed Venus Williams today made an exit in the opening round. She was stunned by an unseeded Briton Johanna Konta in straight sets, 4-6, 2-6. World number three Garbine Muguruza, however, made it to the second round beating Anett Kontaveit of Estonia, 6-0, 6-4.World number two Andy Murray and fifth seed Rafael Nadal are playing their first round matches. Yesterday, top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova and Tomas Berdych advanced to the second round.Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis, and Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Rohan Bopanna and Purav Raja, with their team-mates, will play their Doubles first round matches later in the tournament.
