Venus finishes transit in front of the Sun

The planet venus has finished its transit in front of the Sun, an event that will not be seen again until the year 2117. Viewed through special filters, it appeared as a tiny black disc.

The transit will help the search for planets circling other stars in the galaxy. Hawaii, Alaska, eastern Australia and eastern Asia witnessed the entire phenomenon for more than six hours.
