Venkat Ragala wins gold in 77 kg Weightlifting category in Asian Youth Games

India's Weightlifter Venkat Rahul Ragala clinched a gold medal in the 77 kg category in Asian Youth Games being held at Nanjing, China. On the 6th day of the games, 16-year-old Venkat lifted a cumulative total of 310 kg in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk event to win the gold. Meanwhile, in the 10m air pistol event, India's Shainki Nagar shot for silver in the event. Shainki accumulated 195.3 points in the finals and narrowly missed out on a gold medal which went to China's Wu Jiayu who finished with a total of 195.5 points.Now India has swelled its medal tally to eight at the second Youth Asian Games. India Currently occupies ninth spot in the medal standings. The medal tally includes 1 Gold each from Squash and Weight lifting, 1 Silver each from Shooting and Golf, and 1 Bronze each from Athletics, Table Tennis, Weightlifting and Judo. However Indians are participating under Independent Olympic Athletes as the IOA is serving a ban.
