Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu today ruled out the allegations that the demonetization process has had its affect on newspapers leading to the closure of some editions in the Country. Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Naidu said the advertisements are being given as per the existing guidelines, and their percentage to various categories is fixed.

Stating that some newspapers were being published for record-sake only, he assured that no genuine news paper will be affected as the Government reviews its policy from time to time on allocation of advertisements. However, he felt that the regional newspapers should get major share of advertisements in view of their higher circulation and this may be kept in mind during the review of the policy.
