Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu has rejected the allegation of West Bengal Chief Minister that the centre is trying to stage military coup by deploying the Army jawans at toll booths in the state.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Mr. Naidu termed the charges as baseless saying it is a routine exercise. He said, the country has democratic elected governments at the Centre and in the state. He said, the Chief Minister is making unnecessary allegations.

Meanwhile, TMC continued to make allegations saying such deployment is against the federal structure of the country. Party MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy said the Army has been allowed without prior information of the state government and local police.

Echoing similar views, BSP Chief Mayawati also objected to the reported move. She told media outside Parliament that the Centre should not take such steps.
