Venkaiah Naidu blames Congress for instigating farmers at Mandsaur

Infromation and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today blamed the Congress for instigating farmers at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Naidu alleged that Congress is trying to politicise farmers' problems after they failed to counter Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan politically in the state. He said, Madhya Pradesh was amongst the best performing states on all counts and because of Mr. Chouhan's initiatives 20 per cent of farmers in the country are in MP. He said, the farmers might not be getting ideal price for their crops and they are protesting and the state government is addressing the issue. <br/><br/>The Minister said, Centre has taken several measures to improve condition of farmers. He also warned the Congress against fueling violence. Meanwhile, Congress continued to attack the BJP government alleging that the ruling party has almost been acting like what it called curse for farmers. Briefing media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Abhisekh Manu Singhvi questioned the state government over its initial denial that there was no firing. He alleged that the spending on schemes related to farmers have been cut after 2014. <br/><br/>Mr. Singhvi also said, the people who wanted to go and express solidarity with the bereaved farmers, including Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, were denied permission. CPI(M) also criticized the BJP government over the issue. Party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury questioned the firing at protesting farmers.
