Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has vowed to push ahead with a new constituent assembly to rewrite the constitution. Mr Maduro signed a document yesterday formally establishing the terms for electing members of a constituent assembly that will be tasked with drafting a new constitution.<br/><br/>However, the opposition controlled National Assembly has rejected Mr Maduro's plan. Speaker of the legislature, Julio Borges, said what has announced is nothing but a continuation of a coup against the constitution.<br/><br/>At least 53 people have been killed in protests and looting since a Supreme Court decision to nullify congress in late March. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the chief of Venezuela's electoral council has said, regional elections would take place on 10th December. Council President Tibisay Lucena said, officials are looking to hold an election for members of a special Assembly to rewrite the constitution in July.
