In Venezuela, electoral authorities have announced that presidential elections will take place on 22 of April. <br/><br/>Announcing the elections, president of the Electoral Commission, Tibisay Lucena yesterday said in Caracas that the registration of candidates for the presidential elections would begin on 24 of this month. <br/><br/>The announcement comes hours after a breakdown in negotiations between Venezuela's ruling socialist party and opposition politicians. <br/><br/>President Nicolas Maduro has already launched his campaign for a second term and stands as the only candidate. The opposition said the government refused to allow two of its leaders to take part in the election.
