In Venezuela, opposition boycotted a meeting yesterday to discuss President Nicolas Maduro's plan for a new popular assembly. <br/><br/>No representatives of the opposition Democratic Unity coalition went to the meeting despite an invitation from Education Minister Elias Jaua who is leading the constituent assembly process.<br/><br/>Leader of the National Assembly legislature Julio Borges said, it is a trick by the government to keep themselves in power. He said, the only way to resolve the crisis is with a free vote.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, protests against Maduro's efforts to reform the constitution are continuing. Hundreds of demonstrators with gas masks and makeshift shields faced off with police and National Guard troops in capital Caracas. The unrest has killed at least 37 people since early April.
