Vehicle explodes near Int'l Force convoy in Kabul; suicide bomber killed

A suicide car bomber was killed when he detonated his explosive-laden vehicle near the convoy of the International Force in Afghanistan's capital Kabul this morning. There is no immediate report of any civilian or security forces casualty. According to reports the suicide bomber blew up his explosives as the convoy was entering the airport compound.

The incident took place at Kasaba area in the northern part of Kabul city near the heavily guarded international airport which also houses an air base of the NATO-led International Force. The International Force and the Afghan police have confirmed the blast without disclosing details of the incident.

Afghan intelligence agency the National Directorate of Security (NDS) yesterday claimed that the Afghan security forces foiled several coordinated attacks by militants in Kabul city by arresting 22 members of a terror outfit. According to the NDS the extremists were planning to carry out 9 suicide attacks on some high profile locations including the Kabul International Airport in the city.
