The introduction of Value Added Tax in the national capital has significantly strengthened the state exchequer with tax collection registering a 100 per cent increase in the last five years.<br/>As per the latest official figure, Delhi Government has collected 11 thousand crore rupees through VAT in the fiscal 2009-10 as against the total tax revenue of 5 thousand crore rupees in 2004-05 which is inclusive of sales tax.<br/><br/>The VAT was introduced in the city on 1st April 2005 and from that year onwards the revenue collection of Delhi Government witnessed marked improvement.<br/>Delhi Finance Minister A K Walia had projected to collect Rs 12,000 crore from VAT in 2010-11 which is 77 per cent of the total expected revenue collection. <br/>
