In Uttar Pradesh Majlis-e-Shura of Darul Uloom Deoband has decided to continue rector Maulana Ghulam Mohammed Vastanvi on the highest post of the most respected seminary based at Saharanpur. The Shura has set up its three member sub-committee to enquire into the allegations against Gujarat-based cleric Vastanvi. The committee will submit the report to the Shura for final decision of fate of Maulana Vastanvi. The 3-member committee comprises members of the Shura including Mufti Ismail from Maharashtra, Mufti Manzoor Ahmed from Kanpur and Maulana Ibrahim Malik from Tamil Nadu. The high-powered Shura governing body of Deoband has also appointed Maulana Abul Qasim Nomani as acting rector of seminary. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that Maulana Vastanvi had put his resignation papers at the meeting. The meeting was attended by 14 of total 18 members, has not readily accepted the resignation.
