Various states start 5 day long polio Immunisation drives from today

In Uttar Pradesh, five day long pulse polio Immunisation drive was launched today in 24 districts of western and terai regions of the state The districts includes from Agra, Meerut, Saharanpur, Moradabad and Bareilly divisions.

Our Lucknow Correspondent reports that one crore 24 lakhs targeted children upto five years of age will be administered polio drops during the drive.

About 41 thousand Immunisation booths are set up across the selected districts to administer the polio drops to the children today. More than 5 thousand transit and mobile teams have been deployed at railway stations and bus stands for Immunisation to the children in transit.

During the drive about 25 thousand teams of health workers, Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers have been set up for door to door visits from tomorrow to administer polio drops to the left out children. Extra precautions have been taken in bordering areas with Nepal for immunisation of polio drops to all children entering the country from the neighbouring country.

Our correspondent reports that not a single case of polio infection has been detected in the state from November last year.

The Government has set up monitoring committees at district, division and state levels for effective immunisation against polio. 66 blocks from 11 districts of western and terai region of the state have been identifies as sensitive and special measures have been taken in these blocks during the immunisation drive.

In Bihar five- day polio immunization programme was launched today in the most vulnerable districts of the state.

AIR Patna correspondent reports that the focus of the last round of polio immunization of the year is on migrant population and children living in remote flood affected villages of north Bihar.The districts to be covered include Patna, Vaishali, Darbhanga and Araria. No polio cases have been so far reported in the state since September 2010.All children crossing over into Bihar by road and trains are being administered polio vaccine.

The state government is paying more attention at the areas bordering Nepal. Regular vaccination is also being carried out at 81 transit points along the Indo- Nepal border in UP and Bihar.

All children below the age of five are being administered polio vaccine under the Pulse Polio Ravivaar being organised across the national capital, Delhi. Polio booths have been set up at various locations and officials are also visiting door-to-door to administer the vaccine.

The Government has launched massive awareness campaign to encourage parents to get their children vaccinated. Our correspondent reports that Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign has been very successful and this year only one polio case has been reported in the country.
