In Punjab and Haryana, various scheduled roads on the national Highways are still under encroachment. In this regard both the states have filed fresh affidavits before the Punjab and Haryana High Court during the resumed hearing of Public Interest Litigation on Tuesday. In Punjab, over 45000 encroachments and violations are still prevailing on the scheduled roads while in Haryana, the number of encroachments are over 52000. Giving detail of the encroachments removed by the authorities, the Punjab Government has submitted in the High Court that 1303 violations are within and 24,314 are outside the municipal limit. Haryana Government has submitted that there are 52,852 encroachments and violations which are yet to be removed. The High Court has given three months time to both states to remove the encroachments and file the status report.
