Various organisations take out march in Kochi seeking a country wide ban on Endosulfan

In Kerala, various organisations took out a march at Eloor in Kochi this morning, seeking a country wide ban on the use and production of Endosulfan, a pesticide, whose irrational use is believed to have caused morbidity in some villages in Kasargod district in the state. The march ended near the gates of Hindustan Insecticides Ltd, a public sector undertaking, which is a major producer of Endosulfan in the country. While the global community proposed a ban on the use of endosulfan, India had opposed the move at the Stockholm Convention of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee in October. The Union Government's stand has evoked strong protests from various quarters in the state, including the Kerala Government.
