Uttar Pradesh Government has suspended five police officers including two Superintendents of Police following yesterday's stampede that claimed 24 lives and left 50 others injured in Varanasi. <br/><br/>The incident took place on an over crowded Raj Ghat bridge on the border of Varanasi and Chandauli districts when followers of a religious leader were crossing it to attend a congregation. The state government has also ordered a Magisterial inquiry into the incident. <br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed anguish over the incident and announced a solatium of two lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased and fifty thousand rupees to those injured. <br/><br/>Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also announced an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees each to the next kin of those killed and free treatment to the injured.
