Vaishnodevi: Third tunnel opened for pilgrims

Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board has thrown open a third tunnel for pilgrims to cope with the rush in Holy Shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Jammu Division.

The third tunnel is airy, well lit and a very convenient headway. It provides an excellent ‘darshan’ at the holy Shrine. It was thrown open amidst chanting of Vedic mantras and performing special pooja and other religious ceremonies.

"After opening of the third tunnel, the waiting time for the Darsahn of Holy Mata will get considerably reduced as pilgrims no longer will have to wait for longer duration in queues for their turn. A number of projects have been taken in hand by the Shrine Board while many others are in the pipeline for further expanding and upgrading the facilities for the pilgrims.

Steps are also underway for putting in place a material ropeway between Siar Dabri and Bhawan and a passenger ropeway between Bhawan and Bhairo Ghat for the convenience of pilgrims.

J&K Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, who is the Chairman of the Shrine Board, has been taking keen interest for strengthening the infrastructural facilities for the visiting pilgrims to ensure an increasingly smooth and comfortable pilgrimage.

He has repeatedly stressed the need to continuously upgrade and improve the amenities for the Yatris. In this context, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, has been approached to depute a team of experts for carrying out a time motion-study of the queues at various locations, between Katra and Bhawan, with a view to taking measures to reduce the waiting time of the pilgrims and thus providing them further comfort.
