In Puducherry, Mr. V. Sabapathy, of the ruling NR Congress is all set to be Speaker of Assembly. He was the lone candidate to file nomination for the post, as filing of nominations came to a close at Tuesday noon. The Assembly Secretary Mr Sivaprakasam said a total of six sets of nominations were presented proposing Sabapathy's name to the post. He said the pro-tem Speaker T Thiagarajan will formally announce the election of Sabapathy when the house meets on Wednesday.Later speaking to newsmen, the Chief Minister Mr N. Rangaswamy claimed that Mr Sabapathy was elected unopposed and thanked leaders of various political parties for extending their support.
