Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has stressed the a need to formulate a long-term and medium-term action plan for augmenting public and private investments to revitalize agriculture sector. Delivering Dr.VKRV Rao memorial lecture on the occasion of 47th Founders' Day of Institute for Social and Economic Change in Bengaluru today, he noted that even when public investment in agriculture is critical and important; it forms only 15 per cent of total investment in this sector. <br/><br/>Speaking on Challenges and Opportunities facing Indian Agriculture, he suggested that the Central and State Governments should evolve policies to channelize greater private investments through Central Government schemes in farm inputs, irrigation, marketing, post-harvest management, risk management, land development and capacity building of institutions. <br/><br/>The Vice President said that the government initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, e-NAM and soil health card programmes are helping the farmers to improve productivity and getting better economic returns.
