The Khelo India University Games set to be inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in Bengaluru on April 24 will see the participation of Olympians. According to the Sports Authority of India, Tokyo Olympians Srihari Nataraj representing Swimming, Manu Bhaker in Shooting, and Dutee Chand in Athletics will be competing in the Games.
During the second edition of the games, two new disciplines namely Yogasana and Mallakhamb are added for the first time. This is an effort to preserve and promote the century-old sporting disciplines of the country. There are 3871 athletes from 189 Universities across the country to compete in 20 disciplines for 275 Gold medals. Bengaluru will be home to around 8000 athletes, support staff, and technical officials during the mega spectacle.
AIR correspondent reports that Khelo India University Games in Bengaluru will be a Green Game. Everything used in the field of play will be made of reusable material. Electric vehicles will be used for transportation. Waste will be segregated as wet and dry at the source in every venue. The logo of the Games features the iconic Vidhana Soudha building with two elephants on either side. The mascot of the Games is Veera, the mighty strong wise elephant accompanied by Jaya, a blackbuck, and Vijay, a Tiger. The Khelo India Jersey depicts an athlete in action. The sporting event will be broadcast live on multiple channels of Doordarshan, PIB digital channel, and All India Radio.
