Uttarakhand govt. to open fifty farmer-buyer centres

Uttarakhand Government has decided to open fifty farmer-buyer centres across the state. This would help farmers to get more cash for their crops by eliminating the role of middle man. According to officials only retail buyers will be allow to transaction in these centres. AIR correspondent reports that the state government’s decision would benefit both farmers and retail buyers. This step was necessitated after the state government implemented the Central Government’s agriculture produce market committees act, which caused for reforms in agriculture. According to agriculture secretary fifty buyer centres would be opened in the state. Out of that two to three centres would be open in the state capital Dehradun and its adjoining areas during this financial year. He told that before opening the centres, ratio of retail customers in that particular area would be taken into consideration. Meanwhile, a team of senior state officials is on tour in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, where the concept of farmer buyer centres is running successfully.
