Uttarakhand government has started a project named Uttarakhand Rural Potable Water and Sanitation Project to provide drinking water in the villages. Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said the novel project of making potable water available in the villages were being prepared and implemented by the Panchyats. In Dehradun, addressing the meeting regarding this project with World Bank team, he informed that with the cooperation of community participation, supply of drinking water and construction of private toilets were being ensured in the villages. He told that Contribution of Rs.600 from the general family and Rs.300 from the families of SC and ST were being taken for the project. Chief Secretary informed that Plan of the scheme, estimate of the cost and implementation was being shouldered by the Gram Panchayats. Pey Jal Nigam, Jal Sansthan and Swajal agencies had been engaged with the project for technical support
