Uttarakhand CM orders high level probe into Chauras bridge collapse

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has ordered for a probe by a high-level technical committee into the Chauras bridge collapse accident in which six labourers were killed and 18 others injured when a under constructed bridge over Alaknanda River was collapsed at Srinagar Garhwal today. Our correspondent reports that after reviewing the rescue operations at the site of mishap Mr. Bahuguna announced Rs 1 lakh ex gratia each for the next of the kin of the deceased.AIR correspondent reports, all the six bodies have been retrieved so far from the river. The deceased were said to be from Bihar, Nepal and Ghaziabad. Meanwhile, one of the injured labourers was air-lifted to Dehradun due to his critical condition. There have been similar incidents in the state in last few years which authorities have been repeatedly blamed for the poor quality of material used in these structures. Meanwhile Chief Minister has directed to take action against the officials responsible for this miss happening.
