Heavy damage to life and property has been caused in Rudraprayag and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand in different incidents of cloud-burst and incessant heavy rain. In Ukhimath Tehsil of Rudraprayag, 12 persons have died while about 35 people are buried under the debris after a cloud- burst occurred in 6 villages. Four people have died in the flash floods in Kapkot area of Bageshwar.Our correspondent reports that heavy damage to life and property has been reported from six villages of Ukhimath Tehsil in Rudraprayag district following a cloud burst late last night. The affected villages are Magroli, Kimada, Sansari, Giriya, Chunni and Brahman Kholi. According to latest reports, 12 persons have died in these villages, while 4 people are seriously injured. 35 people have been buried under the debris. 9 bodies have so far been recovered. Several houses have been completely damaged. District Administration, Police and Disaster Management Team are engaged in rescue and recovery operation. Two teams consisting of 30 army personnel and a medical team from Rudraprayag have been rushed to the affected area. National Disaster Reaction Team and ITBP have been requested to rush additional assistance. Chief Minister, Vijay Bahuguna has asked the District Magistrate to carry out relief and rescue operations and provide immediate relief to the affected people at war footing. Meanwhile, 4 persons have been swept away in the flash floods following incessant heavy rains in Kapkot area of Bageshwar District yesterday. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out in the affected areas.
