Former Member of Parliament from Yavatmal and a prominent leader from Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Uttamrao Patil passed away at a private hospital in Nagpur last evening following cardiac arrest.

He was 68. He represented the Yavatmal Lok Sabha constituency for four consecutive terms from 1980 and again twice from 1998.

He joined the Nationalist Congress Party a few months ago. The last rites would be performed at his native place Loni in Arni taluka of Yavatmal district later in the day today.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and other prominent leaders across the political spectrum, have condoled his demise.
