UTs to promote capacity addition in the power sector

The Centre is providing financial incentives to States and Union territories. UTs to promote capacity addition in the power sector. These include zero custom duty to import of equipments for the power projects, benefit to the domestic bidders for the projects and Income tax benefits.

This was informed by Power Minister Shushil Kumar Shinde in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. He disclosed that for development of power sector, the Centre has released more that 5177 crore rupees to 29 States and UTs during 2009-2012. This financial help was extended under Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme.

He added that under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, the Centre has released more than 12237 crore rupees to 27 States in the last three years from 2009 to 2012.
