The government today said that the capacity utilization of Nuclear Power Plants has improved over the last year. The Minister of State in PMO informed the Lok Sabha today that the capacity utilization of the reactors which was 50 percent in 2008-09 has gone up to nearly 60 percent for the period between April and November this year. He said that 11 out of 17 nuclear power reactors in the country are not operating at optimum capacities . He said that these reactors use indigenous uranium which is not available in the required quantity. Mr. Chavan said that three reactors which are using imported uranium are operating at maximum capacity while three others have been shut down because of long term maintenance.
