The top US commander in Iraq says the United States is still on schedule for a partial withdraw of its forces by the end of August. <br/> <br/>Appearing on a US television on Sunday, Gen. Ray Odierno said despite recent political uncertainty and increased militant attacks the United States is still on target to reduce its troops to fifty thousand. <br/> <br/>He said there are about ninety five thousand US troops in Iraq today and unless there is a dramatic and unperceived change in the security situation the withdrawal will proceed as planned. All US forces are expected to be out of Iraq by the end of next year.<br/>
