The United States has welcomed India's decision to buy military transport aircraft from the U.S. aerospace giant Boeing. U.S. Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer today said the sale captures the mutual benefits of the U.S.-India partnership, with India adding to its strategic, defense and humanitarian capabilities. He said the deal will create 23,000 American jobs and over 600 suppliers throughout America will benefit from the sale. The U.S. ambassador said the aircraft will help India respond to natural disasters and deploy peacekeeping troops around the world. The C-17 aircraft is capable of carrying combat equipment, troops and supplies across long distances while being able to land at smaller airstrips. India's Cabinet yesterday approved a 4 billion dollar agreement to buy 10 C-17 aircraft from Boeing. The deal still needs further approval.
