US urges Israel-Palestine to resume talks

The United States has urged Israel and the Palestinians to resume peace talks. Talking to reporters at a news conference with Jordanian foreign minister Nasser Judeh in Washington , the US secretary of state Hillary Clinton suggested that the only way to deal with the issue is to get into talks and to focus immediately on borders and Jerusalem as this could break their deadlock over Jewish settlement building.

AIR correspondent Dushyant Ojha reports from Dubai that Analysts in the Middle East say that the chances of resumption of peace talks between two sides now depend on Israel’s decision regarding complete freeze on settlement activities in occupied areas. Talks between Israel and Palestinians were halted due to Gaza war. These could not resume due to Palestinian demand that Israel first implement a complete freeze on building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which is not acceptable to Israel. The Palestinians want to establish an independent state comprising West Bank and Gaza with east Jerusalem as their capital.

The United States has been making frantic efforts to resume the talks to resolve the conflict, which they believe destabilizes the region and fuels anti-American sentiment.
