US to stand by Israeli interests

US Vice President Joe Biden has said that U.S. is willing to stand by those who will take risks for peace. After talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem today, Mr. Biden expressed the confidence that Israel is prepared to take such risks. He said, we are at a moment of real opportunity and interests of the Israeli and Palestinian people are actually more in line than they are opposites.<br/><br/>Biden, is in the region to encourage indirect Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and discuss international efforts to halt Iran's nuclear drive.<br/><br/>Biden also met Israeli President Shimon Peres. U.S. Vice President is scheduled to meet with the envoy of the Quartet on the Middle East, Tony Blair and will travel to the Ramallah in West Bank to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad. Biden is to travel to Amman to meet with Jordan's King Abdullah on 11th march.<br/><br/>Meanwhile Palestinians and Israelis are holding their first indirect talks in more than a year, which is expected to boost Middle East peace process. Talks were stalled after start of Gaza war December 2009. U.S. State Department confirmed to reporters in Washington that the talks had started under the mediation of U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell.<br/>
