US to initiate dialogue with Myanmar

The United States will initiate dialogue with Myanmar for improving relations but will not ease sanctions. Washington will also press for the unconditional release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. US Assistant Secretary of State for Asia, Kurt Campbell, said that for the first time, the Myanmar leadership has shown an interest in engaging with the United States and Washington intend to pursue that interest.<br/>Meanwhile, Myanmar's Prime minister General Thein Sein told the UN General Assembly on Monday that Western economic sanctions against his country are politically motivated and should be lifted. <br/>
