US, Taliban sign peace deal for phased withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan

<span style="color: #222222;">The US-Taliban Peace deal was signed today in Doha. India attended the historic event as Observer. US today signed a historic peace deal with the Talibans in Doha to end America's presence in Afghanistan in a phased manner. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">India's envoy to Qatar P Kumaran witnessed the signing of the peace treaty. India has been an important stakeholder in the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' The landmark peace deal will see a phased withdrawal of thousands of US soldiers from Afghanistan. As part of the deal, the Talibans are required to initiate a dialogue with the Afghan government and other civil society and political groups for a permanent ceasefire and power sharing in post war Afghanistan.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' It was more than 18 years ago that the United States had ordered an attack on the Talibans following the tragic 9/11 happening in America. The US had lost more than 3000 citizens in this deadly terrorist attack on its twin tower.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' The US has reportedly spent more than $ 750 billion, and on all sides the war cost tens of thousands of lives lost. According to a report more, than 2300 US soldiers have lost their lives since 2001 in this 'endless war'.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' Ahead of the signing of the deal, the US and the Taliban had agreed to a seven-day cooling-off period which passed off peacefully. The truce came last Friday night.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' US troops are likely to withdraw about 5000 of its soldiers from the current strength of approximate 13000 soldiers. Further withdrawal of troops will depend on the Taliban meeting certain counter-terrorism conditions, compliance that will be assessed by the US. </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' Donald Trump in his election campaign had promised to bring the troops back home and end this war which started in response to the 9/11 attacks in September 2001.</span><br />''  <br />
