US strongly supports NSG clean waiver for India

The United States on Thursday said it strongly and vehemently supports the NSG clean waiver for India. US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer speaking to reporters in New Delhi, expressed hope that the civil nuclear deal between the two countries will continue to move in a positive direction. Mr Roemer said the 123 civil nuclear legislation also underscores US support for India. AIR correspondent reports, the 46-member Nuclear Suppliers Group(NSG), the elite nuclear club, last week decided to push for more stringent norms that govern technology transfer for reprocessing technology. This decision has raised concerns about its impact on the landmark civil nuclear deal India signed with the US. The US envoy described Indo-US democratic and strategic ties as significant towards establishing greater co-operation between the two great democracies. Mr Roemer said US President Barrack Obama's visit to India has further cemented economic ties between the two countries. He reiterated both the countries will work together to tackle the menace of terrorism.
