US stocks climbed, yesterday, after data showed that U.S. economic growth was stronger than previously reported last quarter, helped by robust consumer spending. The energy sector rose for a third straight day. So the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 69 points, or 0.3 percent, to close at 20,728. <br/><br/>The S&P 500 gained 7 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,368. And the Nasdaq Composite added 17 points, or 0.3 percent, to end at a fresh record high of 5,914. U.S. economic growth slowed less than previously reported in the fourth quarter, as robust consumer spending provided a boost, the Commerce Department said. GDP increased at a 2.1 percent annualized rate, instead of the previously-reported 1.9 percent pace. A separate report said jobless claims fell by 3,000 to 258,000 in the latest week, near their lowest level in decades.
