US stocks log robust gains, Facebook-parent rise 12.4 percent after stronger-than-expected profit

The three major US stocks logged robust gains yesterday. US share indices rose as strong earnings from Meta Platforms lifted battered technology and growth stocks and offset concerns around a contraction in U.S. economic growth in the first quarter. The Facebook parent rose 12.4 percent after it reported a stronger-than-expected profit and the social-networking site eked out user growth.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index climbed 1.9 percent, the S&P 500 surged 2.5 percent and the Nasdaq Composite jumped 3.1 percent.
