The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq indices ended marginally lower while the Dow closed with gains yesterday. The US stocks ended mixed amid mixed earnings and a technical malfunction at the opening bell.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3 percent while the S&P 500 slipped 0.1 percent and the Nasdaq Composite index fell 0.3 percent.
