Washington says, India will be a central part in any consideration of reform at the United Nations Security Council. It said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is one of President Obama's most valued partners in the G-20, and the United States strongly supported the recent expansion of India's World Bank voting share. Addressing Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, William Burns said that India's role in promoting global security is growing. India is today one of the largest troop contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, building on a rich tradition of Indian military contributions, including in World War II. Mr Burns said India's leadership, and the potential for US-Indian partnership, extends well beyond Asia, noting that the US military now holds more bilateral military exercises every year with India than any other nation. Mr Burns said that US stake in India's defence modernisation is real and increasing. Mr.Burns said, US wants that Pakistan should act effectively against terrorist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and will do everything to encourage progress in Indo-Pak relationship. He said that after the Mumbai terrorist attack, there has been a dramatic expansion in the Indo-US cooperation on counterterrorism.
